I am on the same train ride that we took but the difference now is that, I too, have lost my father.

I thought I understood your pain. How you drove for hours, how you argue with the police just to take the short cut, how you were able to get a small boat just to cross the river near the hospital, how your father left you without saying goodbye. But, no.

Pain is subjective. It is one of the most complicated feelings in human emotions. Words are often futile to explain its complexity. Not even the feelings itself can fathom its own soul.

We, humans, experience different forms of pain and sometimes, most of the time, people don't understand that we have our own ways of mourning. We don't have to explain ourselves to the world. I think that's one of the few things that death thought me, we pay too much value on things that in the end doesn't really matter.

Your father was a German but the only German word that he taught you was the word for male private part. On the other hand, my father taught me to 'go to the loo' whenever I am at work because it is the only time that I am paid while doing it. They are both cheeky, aren't they? And at some parts of our lives, our relationship to them went beyond the lines to the point that we hated them. We both don't have a perfect father and child story. Well, I wonder who has one. But at the end of the day, or at the end of our fathers' lives rather, we felt that all the issues that we had before does not matter. Our love for them is greater more than any silly things that we thought have greater value. And our fathers loved us back. They loved us even before we learn how to love. They loved us very much, more than what we are actually capable of.

Pete, you asked me how my father is. My father never asked anything from me nor made me feel that I have shortcomings. He would just frequently tell me to love my work and work will love me back. He just wanted me to become stable and have a comfortable life. He didn't wish anything for himself anymore. He was contented. He was happy. So, maybe that's why he left. He wouldn't say goodbye because he knew I won't allow him to. And he knew, it will be hard for him to say NO to me. Although he didn't raise me as a spoiled child, he was the type of father who would say sorry even if it is not really his fault and just because he saw me being upset. He have peculiar ways of comforting me. He's someone who was not shy to say I love you and shower me hugs and kisses. He was loving, very very loving.

I miss you everyday paps.

Almost a decade ago, my younger self wrote a blog entry about the reasons people should travel for an online competition. At that time, the word “blogger” was very unfamiliar to many and I feel like before, it was more associated of being nerdy since bloggers are writing some random topics on the internet. In Philippines, when you like to write or read books, you are considered nerd (or somewhat a little weird). In a simple way to say, blogger was then not as cool as how it is now.

Reviving this blog by rereading and posting my old articles again has brought me a great turmoil of mixed emotions. It is both embarrassing, amusing and humbling. My post of “Why travel?” 8 years ago was written by my young self  who has not yet experienced the reality and rawness of life – her bubble of the ideal world has not yet been popped. She have just passed the national licensure exam at that time, had her first airplane ride and her first holiday away from her family. The main answer of why she thought that people should travel is because it is a way of getting to know and improving one's self. Life was much simpler during that time and sometimes I wish my young self and I have the same answer.

When you wake up at 4:00am and brave the 3-degree freezing cold winter fog, when you have four long straight evening shifts and only have 3 hours of sleep in the morning, when you didn't get the chance to eat your dinner not even just to urinate in the entire 8 hour shift, when you are still giving your best smile even if you are both crying and screaming inside – because you believe that is how professionals should do and you are deeply passionate to your profession, when you feel like you are constantly pushing yourself – but then too burnt out already. Go away, go on a holiday, go to a different environment without those stressors – go, Travel!

People travel for leisure. An escape from their constant reality. To some, they are just genuinely curious. I once met a Cuban girl who said that Cuba is too small and the world is too big – that's why she traveled. There are still some people who diligently do not put value on material things, instead they would invest in experience. Aren't you intrigue about the elegant Sari worn by the Nepalese women and how their dress speaks about their culture? Is there any terrible Irish? Because I have met a couple of them overseas, and they were all nice. How beautiful really is Armenia? because a lot of Armenians would tell me that I would fall in love to their country if I would visit but I can't understand much the details of their stories because they speak to me in their local language not bothered whether I completely understand what they are talking about or not. And I do apologize that I am not that multilingual. I am somewhat only limited to English as my third language.

There are some people who have a secret obsession of flying. Let's blame it to the ID of the human unconscious minds that eagerly wants to be fed over and over by that same feeling of childhood memory. The nostalgia when one was riding at the back of a motor bicycle, spreading the arms wide open and feeling the cold wind gushing through against the skin pores. It is addictive to chase the mixture of pink, blue and purple coloured sunrise and the orange golden dusk – while you are above the sky. It is very different and beautifully overwhelming when you are literally in parallel to the wonders that  nature creates. High and above, while surging to the desired altitude, it is always a humbling experience of seeing the buildings and islands getting smaller. When you are about to get drowned from self-pride and delusion of grandeur, always remember that we are tinier than a dot compared to this world that we live in.

Amongst all, people travel because they can. When you go on holiday, you would spend your disposable money but that does not mean you have to be a millionaire to do that. It is much affordable today. Airline companies do give heaps of promotional fare. Lucky you, you can fly from manila to Sydney for $300. And If I could tell something to my younger self, thank you for working hard, as I am now able to buy my plane tickets.

Personally, I want to travel to see my parents as often as I can. At young age, I have learned from my family an important lesson in a very hard way. Walk around in an unfamiliar city while their knees can still catch up. Together, see the world while they still don't need to use eyeglasses. Spend time with them because although we are all getting older and so as our parents.

So, why do people need to travel?

The truth is, there is no need to travel. Some people just want and can. That is why travel happens. So please do yourself a favor, do not feel pressured nor feel sorry for your self that you are not like one of those on your Facebook friend list that goes to different places every weekend. If you can't financially afford it or you don't have the time, that's fine. It doesn't make you less human.

By the way, I ranked Second runner-up from the competition I have joined and supposed to get a 2gb Flask Drive. Until now, I am still waiting for it to get delivered. Read my original Why Travel post thru this link.

Out of curiosity.
I didn't get her name but she told me her story.

She is a 72 year old lady with an exaggerated curved back that reminded me of Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She would probably as tall as I am but the age and her years on this earth has made her petite. She was busy clearing and wiping the food court tables, that's why I was hesitant to disturb her for a chat, just to satisfy my query and curiosity. I was shy to approach her but I  thought, I don't visit Singapore everyday, and I should seize the moment.

I have asked a lot of people why there are a lot of old workers in Singapore. A lot of them gave me fruitful information but none of them are Singaporeans and non of the are as old as the workers that I saw. I think I know already the answer but something is missing. It does not satisfy my curiosity. It doesn't put the period to the answers of my many Whys. I want to hear it personally from the mouth of an old Singaporean worker.

So, I pretended to help them and chuck the rubbish to their wheeled bin. She smiled at me and said thank you. I wanted to say you're welcome but I just smiled back. Inside of my head her questions running around, pushing myself to open my mouth.

Why do you work so hard, go on for a holiday! I jokingly said.
In Singapore, you work until you can't anymore. She said with a smile.
How about pension? She said it is not enough. She works 6 days a week. Tuesday is her only day off. That's 8 hours a day, and only at 2 pm she will have her lunch.I did ask her if she has children to support her, she has one child but has a family already. What her daughter earns is enough for her own family.

I actually adore her. She is hardworking. You would observe how she works. Some workers are not that keen doing their tasks but she, has an eagle eye to every dirty table.

My feelings are sitting on a fence. Do I need to feel bad at her because she's already old and still working or should I be amazed because she is old but can still live independently. She can work, not relying to anyone but herself, functioning, has a couple of good reasons to wake up  and get off from bed in the morning, a good reason to live and something to look forward to.

Maybe I was greatly influenced by the culture in Philippines. That once you become a senior citizen, you retire from your work, receive pension and enjoy the rest of your years ahead. Somewhat placid. Maybe I was not used to see old people work because honestly, we, Filipinos would baby our oldies. Most probably because we have close family ties and looking after them is a way to show love and respect.

I can't say which situation of the older generation is better since people have different cultures, countries and situations. I feel fortunate that I asked the old lady as she allowed me to get to know Singapore deeper and more intimate in a very remarkable way.

Your world should not stop even if you're old.

I was genuinely petrified inside but I was still able to put on a fake smile.

It was not my first time to travel alone. I had a couple of domestic flights in the Philippines and flying to Sydney by myself and had no issues. No jitters. No worries. No dramas. I often think that there is something wrong with me why I am not scared to travel.

However, this particular flight is exceptional. Thousands of thoughts are running through my head to the point that it affects my gut and I want to throw up. I have no idea why I was feeling this way. It's just a couple of hours fin Malaysia. I am a Philippine passport holder with legit papers - so, there will be no issues with the visa (In case I need to go through the immigration which actually didn't happen). Maybe I was uncomfortable with the situation because I have never tried layover from foreign countries before. Every unfamiliar 'first times' are for me, nerve cracking. So, to boost my esteem and keep myself scattered into pieces, I whispered to  myself that after I get over this, I will never get scared of travelling anywhere in the world.

I have safely landed in Kuala Lumpur International Airport and my first mission was to find food. I just randomly select  my meal base on the picture as I have no idea what does the name of those food means. I had a descent spicy meal and every food becomes delicious when I am hungry.

My 10 Dollar Meal

So, there's this Aussie man who chuckled while watching me in a hurry of drinking my water. He was originally from Chile and migrated in Melbourne for quite a while. I could tell that he goes to the gym because his trapezius was about to explode. He said that he once had this Filipina girlfriend who was quite expensive to go on a date with because she would take all her family with her. I told him that Yes, we have strong family ties and we love our families to death and No, not all Filipinos would take advantage. A lot of Filipinos work damn hard to achieve every goal that we have in our list.

While I was still at the gate, waiting for the plane's departure, I saw this man who was wearing a mask, coughing loud. I wondered, who will be the unfortunate human creature that will sit beside this man. Less probably me. I hope it wont be me.

Alas! As I happily settled myself inside the airplane, ready to sleep for the whole flight, he sat next to me. Am I being punished because I was talking about this man inside my head earlier? To be honest, his cough wasn't that bad  (or maybe I didn't hear anything because I was sleeping like a baby). Hours later, we were already approaching Sydney and my throat became very dry. I wonder If I sleep with my mouth opened. So, I asked the cabin crew if I could buy a bottle of water. They do accept Australian dollars but the change that they will give you is Malaysian Ringgit. At that time, the only notes that I have were 50 dollars. So, I questioned myself what would I do with 48 Ringgit in Australia? Make an effort to find a money exchange shop to sell those Malaysian money into dollars? So, I made a conclusion to swallow my pride and saliva to somehow get hydrated, go back to sleep and I will drink water when the plane lands in Sydney. Here's the catch. the man who sat next to me bought two bottles of water and gave me one. He said that he wants to get rid of his Malaysian Ringgit and we were at the same page, he has no clue what to do with it when he arrives in Australia.

I was stunned. It was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life and the most painful part is that I have no one to talk with for comfort. It was like a slap on a cheek for thinking rudely against this kind soul who did nothing against me. I just want to hide my head inside my jumper. Ohh this beautiful man, forgive me as I thought of bad thinks about you earlier.

After some awkward pause, I built my courage to say "err.. Thank you".

Where to next?

I have safely landed in Sydney and my first thought was that I can't believe that I pulled an emotional frantic drama over a solo layover flight. It was an amazing experience. And I would like to do it more often.

Autumn in Australia

Philippines, being a tropical country, has only two seasons - wet and dry. As I was born and raised there, I have never experienced what it feels like to have four seasons. I guess, this is one of the reasons why I like living here in Australia. Autumn, my favourite season, has just started. Even if our street looks dull because of the brown maple leaves falling to the ground, I still find it very beautiful. Also, I find simple joy whenever the winter wind gently blows into my face. To add, I am always in awe whenever the Magnolia tree in our front yard would start to produce flowers and seeing no leaves during spring. However, let's not talk much about the scorching Australian summer.

Below are the other reasons why I like Australia. In no particular order.

People follow the escalator etiquette. People understand and obey the rules that if you are at the right side of the escalator, you should walk. And if you are at the left side, you may stand and laze around. I superbly appreciate this manner because it gives order, convenience and politeness to each and everyone. We do not do this in the Philippines but it doesn't mean that Filipinos are being impolite. I guess it is just because we didn't get that concept long before and it has been part of our culture that we stand wherever we want when we are riding the escalator. Nowadays, that concept has been slowly introduced to some of the shopping centres in the Philippines. Hopefully, in the near future, people will get a strong grasp on this idea and follow it diligently.

The train etiquette. When the train stops, let the people from the train go out first before you get inside the train. It's a simple brilliant idea but I think, the competitive side of human nature sometimes rejects that. By living here, I have encountered only once that people don't observe this. It was when a family in the international airport aggressively went inside the train before the other passengers and I were able to get out. They blocked our way out and the door of the train were already closing. We almost missed our stop because of them. But I personally forgive them. My thinking is that they will soon learn how to properly ride a train when they live longer in Australia.

A train ride going for an Early morning shift.

Road trips. Australia is undeniably blessed with beautiful sceneries. The blue coloured mountains of western Sydney, the secret hidden beauty of little bay, the Jacaranda trees in Kirribilli, the sunsets in Bondi beach and Cronulla, and a lot more. Australia is like photographer's playground. The are so much beautiful places waiting to be captured.

Going to the beach or Mountain Park is absolutely free. Yes, you read it right. There's no entrance fee here. I like the feeling that I can actually benefit from the tax that I contribute. Whenever we get a chance, my family and I would go on a road trip heading to the beach, buy some sushi or bring some home cook lunch and just unwind. Life is good.

Road trip to Little Bay

Jacaranda trees in Kirribill
The way they think makes me think. Whenever someone would celebrate birthday and decides to eat out, people pay their own bill. Free lunch is off the trend here because their way of thinking is that people go to work and they have the capacity to pay. I find that idea odd at first because I was used to the Philippine tradition that the birthday celebrant usually pays for the entire group. I think that teaches people not to depend on others and have some sense of pride and self worth. Another example is the ethical issue raised regarding self driving car. If ever there will be an accident, how are these automatic cars programmed? To prioritise the protection of the passenger or the pedestrians? That question honestly blows my mind. How can their neurons able to think far long steps ahead while my naive mind is still stuck in awe to the idea that a car can drive by itself?

Meeting different people. I realised that Davao City is too small and the world is too big. I have met a lot of people from all over the world. Before going to Australia, the only information that I know about Nepal is that their flag  has two right triangles on top of the other. I didn't know that they have similar features to Indians. And most of the Nepalese that I know can speak and understand Hindi because they admittedly watch too much Bollywood movies. Also, I had no idea where Armenia is, until I met some Armenians over and over again. I then eventually satisfied my curiosity by searching where is it on google map. I must also mention that, I enjoyed the small chats using my limited Spanish with people I met who are from Cuba, Yugoslavia and Chile. Most importantly, I will forever be thankful to my Irish friend who enthusiastically cheered me during my first days at work. You were right mate that I will be fine. I have also met people from England, Scotland, Romania, Italy, France, Greece, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Portugal, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Zimbabwe, etc. I could draw a world map.

It's not weird and awkward to read a book while in public. Reading while riding the train for me is perfect. I do not exactly know why. Whenever I read in public back home (Philippines), I get this odd look from people which makes me feel like what I'm doing is embarrassing and beyond the norms. My geek side of me has found a home in the land down under.

People throw their own rubbish in the bin after eating in fast food shops. I just love the idea of cleaning up your own mess. In a way, the act teaches the people to be more responsible. Also, its a good help to the staff workers. Let's be generous with kindness.

Impressively talented street performers are all over the city. There are singers, dancers, musicians, beat boxers, acrobats, and I even met a Japanese boy named Yuya who writes Japanese Kanji calligraphy for free just because he wants to sharpen his skill. The world is their stage as they say and I could not agree more.

Those written above are mainly based on my experiences and opinions. There are a lot more  reasons why I find Australia amazing, but I think the main reason is that, this country allows my goals and dreams closer to reality. With that, I am forever grateful to this country.

Boracay Island, which is used to be the tourism flagship of the Philippines and known for its fine grain white sand, crystal clear ocean with vibrant marine life and sunsets that every photographers dream to chase, is once a gain in a spotlight. However, in an intriguing controversy. What some people feared of before, that the most famous island in the country will be destroyed, is now becoming a reality.

According to the law, there is a 400-hectare forested area in Boracay. Which means, establishments should not be allowed to be build there. In spite of that, the latest statistics of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) noted that there are 600 infrastructures in the forested area.

To add, three to four thousand illegal settlers occupy that area. Moreover, fake land titles are everywhere. Some lands have three or even more different and unrelated claimants.

To make things worse, the rainwater drainage pipes have been illegally tapped by commercial and residential establishments. Instead of just rainwater, their illegal connections are the reasons why waste is coming out from the pipes and into the sea. (Undersecretary, Department of Tourism)

These facts could be shocking and I maybe painting an ugly scene to our tourist industry, but this is what is happening.

I, myself, was a witness of its change. From year 2010, when Boracay was still the closest to paradise that Philippines could offer, until just recently, there are a lot of things that I hope that should have not and should have changed.

Firstly, I wish there was an improvement on Jetty Port. The port is located in Caticlan where tourists ride a small boat going to the island of Boracay. After visiting again after more than a decade, it still looks and feels the same. It was crowded, not well ventilated and the smell was interesting when you would walk pass the public toilets. Living abroad has taught me to be more straightforward. But that is actually difficult to learn and practice because honestly, my background, the Filipino culture is somewhat passive and voicing out or complaining can be misinterpreted as to be rude. But anyway, I want this blog to be genuine as possible. I wonder what happened to the Environmental (P75) and Terminal Fee (P100)? If we convert, the fees are just less than *$5, but if we multiply that amount to the thousands of tourists that visit the island, it can go on a long way. I wish they would give budget for the improvement to Jetty Port as this would give positive first impressions to the visitors.

The next thing that needs to be mentioned is the main road of Boracay Island. My wish before was that I hope they can fix the narrow road or even just give a descent pathway to those pedestrians walking beside the road. My question on my recent visit is that, is there still hope on fixing the road system? It might be impossible to widen the road but it feels odd to see new establishments like restaurants and hotels built closely beside the road. I just want to feel safe and free from stress when walking.

Another fact that is worthy to be mentioned is how station 3 changed. Before, I can easily distinguish if I have already reached the third station when walking. When hotels turn to be a large number of coconut trees, the people you would see becomes few (most of them will be tourists carrying their flippers who just had scuba diving), and the noise of excitement from the people becomes the splash of the ocean waves. There is a different perspective to this. It would mean that the tourism is booming and going strong but it could also mean that its progress is in the expense of the environment. Sure, the businessmen and locals had a good benefit but how about mother nature? This leads us to the issue raised by Department of tourism as mentioned on the first few paragraphs.

Lastly, the biggest shock that the island gave me was when we experienced the typhoon. I was not scared by the strong wind as I would occasionally experience that in Sydney specially during season transitions. But what shocked me, or more on sadden  was seeing how the main road got flooded and people were digging the sand near the shoreline to drain the water flood. Also, in one of the rainy nights, we were prohibited to enter D' mall in station 2 because there were exposed electricity lines that may electrocute people. According to Philippine Information Agency, The TIEZA or Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority are set to commence the Phase II of Boracay drainage improvement project at the beginning of this year.

Despite the concerns that has been raised, the question is, should we still visit Boracay?

I would give a definite yes. An hour of whole body massage for *$6. Various water sports from paragliding to helmet diving (which I was not able to try because of the untimely typhoon), island hopping and legit fresh sea foods, relentless night life despite the heavy rain, buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, clear ocean water, friendly locals who are willing to help you out where to get beautiful and affordable souvenirs, I could go on and on and on.

And it saddens me to think that the island would loss its beauty in the near future if it won't be taken good care.

After two consecutive stormy days (when it was hard to stroll around because of the strong wind and heavy rainfall), the sun finally showed up. But it was on the day that I have to leave the island. All I heard was the sound of the waves and the tweet of the birds. A bittersweet goodbye indeed. The island surely showed off its grace. Its beauty was so hard to justify by using only words. It left me speechless but gave me a different kind of feeling. It was like alluring me, giving me hope, asking me to visit her again.

Here is one of the stupendous things that amaze me when living in Sydney, the things which are whimsically surreal before are closer to reality.

I was still on the train when I saw Lang Leav's post on instagram. Two hours ago (at the time of viewing), she left a few autographed copies of  her new novel Sad Girls at Dymocks Sydney. Yes, she was there, at the very same bookshop that I have been planning to visit couple of days ago, and the very same bookshop that I have been constantly messaging online, enquiring on how to get the autographed bookmarks which will come along with the said novel. She was there, Lang Leav, one of my favourite authors.

I enthusiastically stopped at town hall train station, walked as fast as I can towards the bookshop but I could feel like I was flying with wings at my back. I was in ecstasy, my cheeks are hurting because I could not stop my self from smiling.

I arrived in the shop as if am a frenzy kid looking for a bucket of lollies. I could tell that I was acting weird since I did not stutter any single English word. One of the staff even joked, "Oh! she did not tell you that she was coming" as he led me to the YA section. Another staff who assisted me to where the books are, vividly shared her encounter to Lang, "You missed her! She was here this morning. She literally just walked pass and casually signed the books".

So, I opened the book and slowly flipped the pages. The distinct smell of the paper made me come up with a theory that maybe books mandate our hypothalamus to release Dopamine. A chemical that can cause addiction. Reading, is certainly addicting. Books can never be replaced by electronic paperless reading devices. Old souls such as I, always prefer the traditional ways.

I shall now start flipping pages again. Off I go for an adventure.

Three days after my visa got released, I flew to Sydney right away. Yes, there was a sense of urgency. Aside from personal family reason that needed me to be in Australia, I was yearning so bad to take my career into a much higher level. I had resigned as a staff nurse from the hospital that I used to work for more than four years back then and I was juggling as a product specialist (quite similar as medical representative), private duty nurse and cosmetic clinic nurse. I know my self that I work hard and I felt that no matter how much I try hard in the Philippines, I will never get compensated accordingly. Hard work even filed to boost my morale couple of times. It was like a one-sided love, the passion that you give has not been returning back. However, change is scary. Starting from the scratch is like anxiously getting out from your box, not knowing what kind of monsters out there that awaits you.

I took the risk anyway. There's always bigger and greater out there so leave that lost child behind.

It was my first international travel, and I traveled alone. Aside from that, I arrived on one of the coldest day of winter that Sydney had ever experienced. I was clearly on an adventure from the very beginning.

The first Sydney sunrise that I saw.

Dear friend,

I feel guilty guilty of not telling you the version of truth that I know.
But you see, I am not in the position to tell you the truth behind the what you know is the truth.
I am not the right person to explain you things because that would mean exposing the sensitive truth of that person that you happened to care for. But some times I would wish that we will grab some drinks and pretend that we are drunk. And I will tell you what I know and I would be vindicated and would blame it to the alcohol. It is bothering me. And I hope you understand that people have their own mess but it doesn't mean how you know them is pretending. It is part of how they are. It is just, there are a lot of subparts of their parts that they would rather keep to themselves because this world is cruel or maybe you won't understand. I genuinely consider you as a friend. and I hope one day, you would understand.

Why do we only write when we are sad?
Are we that very silly and hopeful
that words would give us answers
and give us comfort
and would love us back

When you spend your night crying on your bed
When you spend your day, taking the first available bus, not minding where is the destination

How does it feel to have a very deep wound, deeper than the anything you ever had, then put a scoop of rocky road ice cream on top to sugar coat everything. An ice cream is an awful analogy but that's one of his favourites.

It's tiring. It's like there is an unending stumble of domino chips, a prolonged effect of Murphy's law. It's emotionally exhausting when you are trying so hard to convince your self that you are tough and you can get through this, day by day, it's alright. But it will just hit you, in a blink of an eye. One particular instance, like a slap in your face. Oh wait, i'm not okay. There's a burst of gazillion of heavy emotions that leaves you baffled where were all these came from? How good was I on putting it aside and here they are, sitting on my lap. Here they are, swallowing me whole with a very very heavy heart.

PS

I hope that the reader is smart enough to realise that most of the blog entries are posted on random dates.

I know you’ve heard that most of the answer is “why not” but I’m telling you, you’ve got to travel because you are about to meet a very significant person in your life.

I understand that it’s scary to be in a place that you are not familiar with but are you really satisfied to live a life that everything seems to be a routine? Like every time your clock alarms to wake you up, you take a bath, eat breakfast, go to work, then go home, chat a little with friends and family, eat dinner, sleep then wake up again. So where is the fun? Where’s what we call “living the life to the fullest”?, when everything seems to be just the way it is.

Life can be dangerous enough to live but lets seek into something anything but ordinary. Life is too beautiful to go to waste. Don’t let the person in you, that is full of hesitations and is coward become the reason to get outlived by others. One of the things that scare me is that, I am going to die before I get the chance to live the life as I want to. We only get one chance to live (it’s a different case if you believe in reincarnation), so make the most out of it!

Back to the reason that I mentioned earlier why you ought to travel, I was taking about a significant person that you need to know more than anyone else, his interests and dislikes, his strengths and the things that he need to improve at and most importantly to discover what does he really wants in life, his goals and dreams that he wish to achieve. Now, I’m not talking about a knight in his shining armor, this doesn’t involve about having a romantic relationship (but if your lucky, it’s highly likely that you’ll meet the man of your dreams!). In my case I should use the word her instead of his because that significant person that I was talking about is no one else but myself.

Traveling is like a retreat, a time to suppress everything that gives you stress and just focus on things that deserve a bigger issue in your life, like your philosophies and rediscover how beautiful life is. Go and explore the world and get to know your self more!

This entry is a response post for Let’s Go sago! Anniversary contest Part 2. Click here to view the blog winners in which I ranked as 3rd.

One of my posts was featured on a blog site which is owned by SuperBianca also known as the television host, Bianca Gonzalez. I really admire her blog since it is very inspirational and also she features her travel adventures. The amazing thing is that, she never or rarely talk about her work. Last September was her 7th blog anniversary and she invited her readers to share a moment in their lives that forced them to grow up, and the life lesson learned because of it. I am very happy that she featured my story in  which she called, living a daily challenge. It's very heartwarming to know that people are inspired on what I have written.

"Hi Bianca,

I graduated college at 19, became a licensed professional at 20, and currently having my so-called superhero training in one of the hospitals in our country that cater the largest number of patients.

It was around 2 months ago when I was still an ordinary human creature. I sleep late, wake up lake, eat brunch, surf the net, movie marathons, then sleep late, wake up late again… it was a cycle of worry free and stressless lifestyle. A Bum Life! Things were so simple.

Everything changed when I started to save lives and joined this hospital training. I have to wake up before the sun shines and be very mindful on how I spend my 24 hours. When I step in the hospital, it was like there’s a transfiguration in my whole being (like how cars transform into robots in Transformers). At 20, I am forced to act like a real adult. In my career, there is no space for weaklings, no errors should be committed, I have to work efficiently and accurately, in short…close to perfection.

There were couple of times when I witness people fighting for their last breathes, there were also some instances when I need to comfort patients who were informed that there’s no cure for their illness and they just have to wait for their death. I’ve also seen some people crying their lungs out as doctors pronounce that their loved ones already have left them.

In my head, I would ask myself, What in the world is going on? Isn’t it, it was just few months ago when I was so carefree? And in a sudden, I’m standing on the real world, pretending to be adult, compressing chest to assist the heart on pumping blood, teaching parents how to take care of their sick children, inserting needles on veins for fluids, and during my free time I still have to read about the medical cases that I encounter and familiarize the medicines that I give. This whole situation is frenzy, It's emotionally, physically and intellectually challenging. But this is how I choose my life to be. Although I agree to you that at 20’s, we are confused on what we really want in life. I myself want to do a lot of things too, like pursuing photography, writing books, travel the world and study philosophy. I think, when you decide do something, you really have to make a commitment to stand by to that decision, no matter what it takes. I decided to become a superhero, and if I have to grow up fast to become a hero, then I will.

Life can teach us lessons in brutal or weird way. God does not throws things on us that he knows we can’t surpass. So whenever were on a plight, I believe we are still blessed. We should keep thinking positive because for sure, he is preparing us for something better and greater out there."

I have a lot of dreams and goals in life. But I think one of the greatest hindrance from achieving success is the lost of focus on the things that are labeled as necessary. There are some unnecessary things that I opt to do because I find it necessary to make my life more exciting and not to burn myself on building my name. These technically unnecessary yet necessary things that I'm mentioning include playing online games, get hooked on favorite television shows, the serious vice: Movie marathon and the like. I'll never say nor impose that we should get rid of these things, yet those must be controlled.

That problem with us dreamer is that we love to sleep and dream on the things we want to be yet we would loose our energy on making them part of our reality. Hence, it is a decision if we want to just get stuck up on our beds and continue dreaming or wake up, work hard and make them come true. Change in lifestyle is undeniably scary but to stay still on where you're at, not improving yourself is worse.

Wake up kids. We've got the dreamers disease. This whole damn world can fall apart. You'll be okay. Follow your heart. Fly high. What's real can't die.
Just don't be afraid to live - You get what you give, New Radicals.
Press on!

Oh, why, hello there!

We meet again! My sincerest apologies for my sudden and then eventually became a very long absence without prior and decent notice. It has been almost a decade, 9 years to be exact, since this blog has started.

I was away, juggling work and adulthood, and then, the so called - real world swallowed me whole. I was lost, instead of into the surreal reverie, but into the practicalities that have to be dealt with in real life. Until I forgot what are the things that I have always liked and wanted. I had so many things to do, so many tasks that should be accomplished, so many exams that I needed to pass, etcetera, etectera. I am not  complaining. I know things like those co-exist with us. I just feel like it is about time to take a breather and do the things that I have always wanted.

I have been through a lot of adventures which may unfold day by day.

To begin with, I met a lot of people, whom names I may not recall but I still could vividly remember how they look like and how they said the words that are incredibly tattooed in my mind. I put them into writing and labeled it as Strangers in Australia. I accompanied the blog entries with photos that I myself took (because I find and pretty and I just like it).

Also, I find myself liking poetry and prose more and more. I had few poems written even before when I was young, and until now, I am still a coy-hearted pencil pusher. A few of my works that I am happy to share are tagged as Prose. I paired it with my own photos as I feel like their existence are in parallel to each other, I must have beautiful photos to pair up with my poems. I must have delightful words written to pair up with my photos.

What I am very grateful with Australia is that it made my goals and dreams closer to reality. I have always wanted to see different places and capture remarkable photos. I have started collecting memories and put it into blog entries. To start with, I am featuring the city of Sydney and Melbourne.
Lost pages of my photographs and poetry and I am happy you finally found it.
Cheers for more years of blogging!
